Essential Job Functions:

  1. Grocery Clerk helps customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  2. Informs customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  3. Checks product quality to ensure freshness. Reviews "sell by" dates and takes appropriate action.
  4. Provides customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products that they have ordered.
  5. Recommends grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  6. Labels, stocks, and inventories department merchandise.
  7. Reports product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  8. Stays current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  9. Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  10. Ensures proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are kept.
  11. Gains and maintains knowledge of products sold within the department and responds to questions and makes suggestions about products.
  12. Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  13. Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management.
  14. Practices preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate personnel of any repairs needed.
  15. Notifies management of customer or employee accidents.
  16. Works cooperatively in high-paced and sometimes stressful environments.
  17. Manages conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
  18. Acts with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  19. Follows directions and seeks assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  20. Provides support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  21. Performs the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
