Responsibilities include:

  • Informing customers of food specials and recommending grocery items to ensure they get what they want and need.
  • Checking product quality for freshness, reviewing "sell by" dates, and taking appropriate actions.
  • Providing customers with ordered products, both fresh and non-perishable.
  • Labeling, stocking, and inventory management of department merchandise.
  • Reporting discrepancies in product ordering or shipping to the department manager.
  • Staying current with ads, promotions, and seasonal items.
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintaining proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and keeping temperature logs.
  • Gaining product knowledge to respond to customer questions and suggest items.
  • Creating a welcoming environment where customers feel valued and appreciated.
  • Reinforcing safety programs, complying with safety procedures, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Practicing preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs.
  • Reporting customer or employee accidents to management.
  • Working cooperatively in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Managing conflicts in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner.
  • Acting with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Following directions and seeking assistance when needed to resolve issues.
  • Supporting and assisting minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
