Job summary

Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is currently seeking a Grocery Clerk who delivers exceptional customer service while efficiently receiving, merchandising, and displaying products in the Grocery Department. The role emphasizes maintaining attractive displays, upholding co-op standards, safety, and cooperative values in daily work with a friendly, helpful attitude toward all customers.

You will assist customers with product information, stock shelves, and support inventory and signing tasks.

Qualifications

  • Customer Service experience.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully in oral or written form to staff and customers of diverse backgrounds.
  • Math: Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s mentally.
  • Reasoning: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Prioritize work tasks, multi-task, and maintain focus.
  • Use Email, website, and time clock software proficiently.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.

  • Ensure that product displays are maintained, full, clean, and attractive at all times.
  • Order, stock and rotate products following Grocery Department procedures.
  • Reorder products following the Grocery department procedures.
  • Follow department procedures for handling new products and price changes.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of stocking supplies and product back stock locations for the Grocery Department.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of vendors, products, and delivery schedules for the Grocery Department.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
  • Wear proper clothing during shift, including apron and nametag, closed-toe shoes and shirt with sleeves.
  • Maintain accurate and attractive signage within the department.
  • Keep the department orderly and clean.
  • Assist in inventory counts, storewide cleaning, and other projects as needed.
  • Attend meetings and events as requested.
  • Ensure equipment repair and maintenance is communicated to appropriate personnel and make adjustments until equipment has been improved.
  • Demonstrate support for the cooperative values and principles daily.
  • Perform other duties and work in other departments as assigned.
  • Know and uphold the Employee Handbook consistently.
  • Must be available to work hours based on the needs of the business and their department.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Grocery Clerk is responsible for providing consistently phenomenal customer service, efficiently receiving, preparing, and merchandising products, and maintaining attractive displays of products. This position upholds Co-op standards including genuine customer service, department conditions, safety, productivity, and other workplace conditions in a manner that upholds the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and the co-operative identity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
