Qualifications

• Two years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with pressure gauges.
• Basic shop math, including decimals and fractions.
• Solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to read and understand work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform a variety of blast techniques on turbine engine components using a cross mix of equipment.
• Masking and taping to prep parts for blasting and performing actual blasting operations with materials such as aluminum oxide and plastic media.
• Set up and operate blast machines and related equipment per work instructions and manufacturer specifications.
• Secure supplies, tooling, and blast products before starting operation.
• Perform routine inspections of blast equipment and maintain it.
• Use daily, overhead crane and lifting equipment as needed.
• Read, interpret, and follow written and verbal work instructions.
• Communicate all work-related problems with supervisors or other departments promptly.

Job description

The Blast Operator will work in the area of machine blast operations, which is accomplished by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material through a nozzle and onto the surface of a component. Blasting is often required to remove surface contaminants to prepare parts for repairs and paint.

As a blast operator, you will work alongside experienced team members and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in your career. You will become familiar with various types of blast equipment and blast media such as aluminum oxide, and plastic media. As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities, giving you hands‑on experience, growth, and additional responsibilities.

Through our extensive in‑house training program, the successful applicant will be instructed via a series of computer based and hands‑on training, the necessary skills of the position.

1. Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
2. Perform a variety of blast techniques on various types of turbine engine components using a cross mix of equipment (high pressure air, blast tank and other types of equipment)
3. Perform various masking and taping (preparing the part for blasting) and performing actual part blasting operations using materials such as aluminum oxide, plastic grit and wet blast.
4. Set-up and operate blast machines and associated equipment to work instructions and manufacturer specifications.
5. Secure supplies, tooling, and blast product prior to commencing operation.
6. Perform routine inspections of blast equipment.
7. Clean, adjust and maintain equipment using hand tools.
8. Utilize daily, overhead crane and lifting equipment.
9. Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Read and interpret work instructions in various formats.
10. Communicate all work‑related problems and issues with supervisors or other departments in a timely and efficient manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Two years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting.
2. Experience with and/or a familiarity with pressure gages.
3. Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions.
4. Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step‑by‑step processes from the reading of work instructions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
2. Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye‑hand coordination.
3. Careful attention to detail.
4. Capable of handling multiple tasks
5. Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
6. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. This position has pre‑employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing, vision exam and respirator fit test.
2. Work in varying positions from time to time. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
3. Able to work in enclosed spaces.
4. Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions.
5. a. Use of:
   • Safety glasses.
   • TyVek Jumpsuit.
   • Supplied air respirator.
6. Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection. Able to wear additional PPE as required.
7. Occasionally use powered and non-powered hand tools.
