Summary

The Grinder grinds and finishes welded joints as required per specifications for subsequent Painting and Assembly operations. The Grinder completes work quickly, accurately, and with a high degree of quality, following Company practices for safety.

Essential Functions

• Grinds welded steel and stainless steel frames to specifications using grinding and sanding tools.
• Reads and understands engineering prints, bills of material, materials specifications, and other job specifications.
• Delivers completed frames to Assembly or Paint for subsequent operations.
• Inspects equipment daily before use.
• Sets up and operates all equipment, ensuring proper and safe operation, to complete the required grinding steps.
• Examines and verifies the accuracy of work completed to detect defects and ensure conformance to engineering prints and specifications.
• Cleans and maintains all equipment and tools according to Company standards.
• Crosstrains for supporting roles for personal growth and department support.
• Assists team members enthusiastically and as needed to build strong partnerships.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, based on OSHA safety guidelines, and wears required PPE at all times.
• Keeps regular and predictable attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

The Grinder will work daily in the Machine and Weld Shop. Persons in this role regularly operate metal grinding equipment and other tools such as hand tools and gages. The environment may fluctuate from hot to cold depending on the season. The department may be fast-paced. Noise levels are moderate to high.

Physical Demands

This role is physically active. The employee should be able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours, lift materials, and use hand tools. Vision must be unimpaired to see close, peripheral, and with depth perception. The employee must follow OSHA safety standards.

Position Details

• Type: Full-time
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with possible overtime

Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the trade.
• Proficient in operation of grinding and machine tools, use of measuring devices.
• Mechanical aptitude and high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to read engineering prints and understand instructions.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year experience operating grinders or metal forming equipment.
• At least 3 years experience in manufacturing and assembly environment.
• Knowledge of PPE usage.
