Job summary

CMI Group Aerospace & Defense seeks an experienced Grind Machinist to produce precision aerospace components. You will setup and grind to tight tolerances on ferrous and non-ferrous materials, read BP drawings with GD&T, and document inspection results.

The role involves independent work and occasional operation of two machines. The ideal candidate has 5+ years ID/OD grinding experience, familiarity with specific grinders, and a strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with GD&T and drawing interpretation per customer/government standards.
• Experience reading BP/assembly drawings and tolerances.
• Ability to hold tight tolerances and ensure high productivity.
• CNC experience preferred but not required; willingness to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate grinding to produce aerospace components on ferrous/non-ferrous materials.
• Grind angles, contours, lines, spheres and maintain surface tolerances.
• Complete paperwork: inspection reports, SPC, job travelers.
• Read BP drawings and GD&T to ensure correct features and notes.
• Maintain 0.0002–0.0005 inch tolerances with high accuracy.
• Operate 2 machines regularly and communicate process improvements.

ID/OD Grind Machinist - Defense & Aerospace Machine ShopLocation: 3617 E La Salle St, Phoenix, AZ 85040

SHIFT:Night Shift (20% night shift pay differential)

Grind MachinistDuties / Responsibilities

• Setup & operate to produce high precision aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materials


• Ability to setup and grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc. onto surfaces


• Complete all required paperwork properly – inspection reports, SPC, job travelers, etc.


• Ability to hold tolerances of .0002” - .0005” while maintaining a high level of productivity


• Able to work independently and stay on task – operate 2 machines regularly


• Ability to problem solve and communicate process improvement suggestions with management

Grind MachinistRequired Skills / Abilities

• Familiarity with Toyoda, Okamoto, and Kellenberger Grinders, Heald a plus


• Proficient with standard types of inspection equipment – Indicating Micrometers, Bore Gages, Sunnen Gage, & Test Indicators


• Read and interpret of B/P’s including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), and any other standard nomenclature per customer, government, or industry standards and following directions


• Experience in grinding holding tolerances of .0002” - .0005” preferred


• Strong attention to detail, quality-focused, and willing to learn


• General knowledge of standard shop practices and equipment

Grind MachinistEducation / Experience

• High School or GED


• CNC experience preferred but not required


• 5+ years ID/OD grinding experience preferred, but will train lathe or mill machinist looking to grow in one of the most complete grind departments in the valley.
