Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp in Morristown, NJ, is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to study and plan the safe operation of transmission and subtransmission lines and substations across the FE system. You will interact with operating companies, utilities, and regulatory bodies to support capital projects and reliability targets.

The position requires a BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET) with PE license or equivalent, and 2+ years of engineering experience.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• PE license or FE certificate preferred.
• Minimum 2 years engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and studies to develop transmission and subtransmission projects and budgets.
• Perform bulk and area transmission system studies compliant with NERC, PJM and FE criteria.
• Propose mitigation projects and, if needed, develop operational solutions for review.
• Develop annual capital budgets with cost estimates and presentations.
• Study connections of new loads, generators, and merchant transmission projects.
• Support Operations Centers during severe weather or abnormal events and advise on outages.
• Engage with industry groups (NERC, RFC, PJM) and respond to information requests.
• Prepare submittals for compliance activities and participate in departmental procedures.
