Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking a senior Interconnection Consultant to lead generator interconnection strategy for renewable and storage projects across multiple ISO/RTO markets in the United States. You will translate tariffs and regulatory requirements into actionable plans for clients, review interconnection studies, and identify risks with mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Policy, or related field; Master’s degree advantageous.
• Min 5 years hands-on experience in interconnection processes within North American ISO/RTO markets.
• Strong knowledge of interconnection queue management, study methodologies, milestone requirements, and applicable ISO tariffs.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply FERC regulations, ISO tariffs, and interconnection procedures while providing strategic advisory services to clients.
• Solid understanding of power system fundamentals and collaboration with transmission planners and engineering teams.
• Familiarity with FERC Order 2023 and ongoing reforms related to large generator interconnection.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and regulatory concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements across different markets and stages of project development.
• PE licensure desirable; additional certifications in energy regulation or project management are assets.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Lead generator interconnection strategy for a diverse portfolio of renewable energy and energy storage projects across multiple ISO/RTO markets.
• Interpret and advise clients on ISO/RTO tariffs, interconnection procedures, queue reforms, and regulatory requirements, translating complex policies into practical business strategies.
• Review and assess generator interconnection studies, including feasibility studies, system impact studies, and facility studies, while identifying technical and commercial risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate communication and information exchange among clients, Independent System Operators (ISOs), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), and transmission owners throughout the interconnection process.
• Support clients during Large Generator Interconnection Agreement (LGIA) and Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA) negotiations by providing both technical and commercial guidance.
• Monitor developments in FERC regulations, including Order 2023 and evolving interconnection reforms, and advise clients on the potential impact to project timelines and portfolios.
• Collaborate with internal power systems engineers on load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, and other interconnection-related technical evaluations to ensure robust engineering recommendations.
• Contribute to business development initiatives by preparing technical proposals, delivering client presentations, and serving as a subject matter expert in generator interconnection and grid integration.
• Mentor and support junior consultants in developing expertise in interconnection processes, regulatory compliance, and energy market practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Policy, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree or other advanced qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience managing generator interconnection processes within one or more North American ISO/RTO markets.
• Strong knowledge of interconnection queue management, study methodologies, milestone requirements, and applicable ISO/RTO tariffs.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply FERC regulations, ISO tariffs, and interconnection procedures while providing strategic advisory services to clients.
• Solid understanding of power system fundamentals, enabling effective review of interconnection studies and collaboration with transmission planners and engineering teams.
• Familiarity with FERC Order 2023 and ongoing reforms related to large generator interconnection.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and regulatory concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously across different markets and various stages of project development.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is desirable but not mandatory. Additional certifications in energy regulation, project management, or related fields are considered an asset.
