Job summary

Xcel Energy, a leading energy provider in the U.S., offers an internship with the Grid Analyst team. You will test and revise critical documentation, assist with ADMS data cleanup, and help develop automated solutions for Grid Analyst data processes to improve documentation quality and data reliability.

The role starts May 24, 2027, with potential extension based on performance and business needs. You must be a current student in GIS, Computer Science, or Data Engineering and can work full-time

Qualifications

• Current student, Senior or higher.
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in GIS, Comp Sci, Data Engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

An intern would support the Grid Analyst team by testing and revising critical documentation, improving its accuracy and usability for ongoing operations. They would also assist with data clean-up activities for the ADMS Network Model and help develop automated solutions for Grid Analyst instantiation data processes. Intern support would result in more reliable documentation, higher-quality data, reduced manual effort, and increased efficiency across key grid operations workflows.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Testing Documentation

• Manual Attribution of Transformer Catalogs

• Exporting Data Tables from ADMS for Reporting

• Executing monthly data update cycles

This position is for a May 24th, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current student, Senior or higher

• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in GIS, Comp Sci, Data Engineering

• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with a previous internship in a related field

• 3.5 or above GPA in a related field

• Proven ability to balance studies with a part time job

• Coursework: geoprocessing, database, cartography

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $22.10 to $27.90 per hour
