Job summary

City of Columbia is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker to assist in day-to-day operation, maintenance and patrol of the Three Rivers Greenway and related facilities. The role involves engaging with the public, leading programs, and performing general maintenance tasks.

Work is medium-to-heavy, involving lifting and physical activity, and requires basic English communication, good health, and a valid SC Driver’s License. The position supports park operations and safety across city facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to provide information and assistance to the public in a clear, respectful manner.
• Ability to work under stress during emergencies.
• Written and spoken communication skills in clear, correct English.

Responsibilities

• Open, closes and patrols assigned area during hours of operation.
• Patrols recreation areas on foot and/or vehicle to monitor users’ activities and maintain safety.
• Maintain and repair park facilities and equipment; prepare facilities for daily use and events.
• Perform grounds maintenance: mow/edge, clean litter, repair structures and equipment.
• Maintain electrical components and irrigation systems; assist in carpentry work as needed.
• Provide customer service and information; conduct group presentations and respond to inquiries.
• Inspect facilities to identify hazards and coordinate repairs.
• Assist with inventory and procurement of materials; complete forms and reports.
• Coordinate with supervisor and staff; attend trainings to enhance skills.
