Job summary

Kohanaiki is seeking a Greenkeeper I to maintain our championship course, focusing on greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscapes. You will execute daily turf practices, operate equipment safely, and work under supervision to meet Kohanaiki's standards.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of turf experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver's license. Outdoor work, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required; strong teamwork and environmental stewardship

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years golf course maintenance or turf experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily golf course maintenance tasks including care of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, practice facilities, and landscaped areas.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of golf course maintenance equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Follow daily assignments and agronomic practices as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Execute mowing, trimming, edging, raking, blowing, and course setup duties to establish Kohanaiki standards.
  • Monitor course conditions and report any turf, irrigation, or safety issues to supervisors.
  • Interact professionally with members and guests, maintaining awareness of play and prioritizing golfer safety at all times.
  • Support environmental initiatives including water conservation, native vegetation protection, and wildlife awareness.
  • Adhere to all club policies, safety procedures, and equipment operation guidelines.
  • Assist other maintenance team members as needed to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Working knowledge of basic turf maintenance practices and golf course operations.
  • Ability to safely operate walk-behind and ride-on maintenance equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.
  • Understanding of golf course etiquette and awareness of golfer interaction.

Position Information

Job Title: Greenkeeper
Department: Golf Course Maintenance
Club: Kohanaiki
Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent (works closely with Assistant Superintendent and Director of Golf Course Maintenance & Grounds)

Position Overview

The Greenkeeper plays a key role in delivering championship-level playing conditions on Kohanaiki's Rees Jones-designed 18-hole golf course. This position focuses on the daily execution of turf and landscape maintenance practices while upholding Kohanaiki's commitment to environmental stewardship, safety, and exceptional member experience.

Team members are expected to take pride in their work, respect the land and native ecosystems, and contribute positively to a collaborative maintenance culture.

Experience, Education & Licensing

  • Experience: 1-3 years of golf course maintenance or turf-related experience preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • License: Valid driver's license required.

Training & Equipment (Provided On the Job)

  • Equipment and cart pre-operation checks
  • Utility vehicle and maintenance equipment operation
  • Walk mowing (greens, tees, collars, approaches)
  • Bunker maintenance (raking, edging, depth management, debris removal)
  • Trimming, edging, and debris control
  • Blower and SandPro operation
  • Course setup fundamentals
  • Chemical safety, workplace safety, and environmental best practices

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions including heat, wind, rain, and early morning hours.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by course operations.

This position requires flexibility and teamwork. Employees may be asked to perform additional duties outside their normal responsibilities as operational needs arise.
