Job summary

Mauna Kea Resort is seeking a Golf Maintenance Grounds Tender to perform turf and plant care, mowing, edging and cleaning on the golf course. The role involves operating landscape tools and providing daily upkeep of pathways and greens, under the Grounds & Golf division.

Applicants should be able to work outdoors in varying conditions, lift heavy loads, and follow safety procedures. The position is full-time and on-site with benefits as described in the posting.

Qualifications

• Experience in turf maintenance and plant care preferred.
• Ability to operate landscape tools and equipment safely.
• Physical ability to perform outdoor maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim, edge, clean, plant, water and maintain turf, ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs on the golf course.
• Clean, edge, and maintain walkways and cart paths on the golf course.
• Report any equipment problems and ensure proper use and maintenance of tools.
• Maintain the turf and ornamentals to ensure course appearance and playability.
• Assist with removal of debris and upkeep of sand bunkers and greens.

MKR Golf Maintenance Grounds Section Tender

Primary Responsibilities:

Clean, trim, weed, plant, water and maintain grass, plants, trees and shrubs on the golf course.Clean and care for walkways and other outside areas.Is responsible for the proper use and maintenance of tools and power equipment.Responsible for the growth and care of ornamental plants, trees and grass.Trim or remove small trees and shrubs.Change tee markers, ball cups, wash water and may deliver ice water.Perform other simple duties related to the maintenance of the golf course.

• Mow, trim, edge, clean, plant, water and maintain turf, ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs on golf course.
• Clean, edge, and maintain all walkways and cart paths on the golf course.
• Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of tools, power tools and equipment; report any problems.
• Responsible for the growth, maintenance and appearance of all turf and ornamentals on the golf course.
• Trim small trees, lateral growth, volunteer suckers and shrubs.
• Drive and service trucks and small vehicles under1 ton.
• Use of walk mower for all necessary greens and tees.
• Move tee markers, tee divots, change cups and water in ball washers; remove rubbish and debris one course.
• Responsible for consistent edging, fly mowing, cleaning and maintaining of sand bunkers on the course.
• Remove, blow, rake all unwanted materials within the sand bunkers; includes removal of grass clippings, leaves, and cinders on a daily basis.
• Remove unwanted weeds and unnecessary turf which includes occasional spot spraying.
• Plant and add any necessary turf or ornamental planting.
• Assist in special projects which includes aerifications, verticutting, planting, drainage, etc.
• Report any irrigation problems.
• Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
• Perform duties following safety procedures and policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:

• Assist other positions in the department.

Working Conditions:

• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and dirt, sand, grass.

Work Hours:

• Must be able to work shift and days determined by the manager
• Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week, when needed.

Equipment Use:

• Utility vehicle.
• Various landscape maintenance hand tools such as shears, pick, lopper, hand saw, shovel, rake & hedge trimmer, spot sprayer, etc.
• Various power equipment such as air cushion mower, walk mower, weedeater, edger, blower, sod cutter, power saw, other hand power equipment needed to perform job duties.

Mental and Physical Demands:

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, squat, reach for most of shift.
• Ability to use hand and power tools during most of shift.
• Able to lift/carry and push/pull tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to or over 50 lbs.

Communication Demands:

• Must have the ability to communicate verbally to employees and department manager.
