Job summary

Penn State University is seeking a part-time Horticulture/Greenhouse Worker to provide daily care for greenhouse and nursery plants, including watering, pruning, and feeding. You may assist with setup, data collection, pest management, and equipment maintenance, with weekend Sunday coverage required.

Role requires reliability and the ability to work independently following training; background checks may apply as part of Penn State policies.

Qualifications

• Horticulture/Greenhouse workers provide day-to-day plant care, ensuring correct water, nutrients, light levels and health.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily care to greenhouse and nursery plants, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, scouting for pests and disease, and cleaning facilities.
• Inspect plant material for disease, insects, light levels, temperature and humidity, and nutrient requirements.
• Record data and notify the greenhouse manager of irregularities.
• Prepare soil mixes as designated by the greenhouse manager.
• Move materials such as soil, stone, soil mixes, concrete and fertilizers.
• Perform routine maintenance on and modifications to greenhouse and nursery equipment.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Additional hours may be required to cover when the manager is absent.
