Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks a greenhouse technician to operate research greenhouses, regulate light, temperature and irrigation, and cultivate plots and crops. Responsibilities include propagation, soil/media preparation, pest control, plant transplantation, and equipment maintenance.

Applicants should have two years of related coursework in horticulture/agriculture or equivalent greenhouse experience and be prepared to establish Illinois residency within 180 days.

Formación

• Two years (24 months) from horticultural/agriculture/botany coursework or related field, or equivalent greenhouse experience.
• Work experience in greenhouse crop production or research greenhouses and related gardens.

Responsabilidades

• Regulates light, temperature, water, humidity, and fertility regimes for crops.
• Seeding, cropping, propagation, watering, spraying, and cultivation of vegetables, fruit plants, ornamentals, and turf.
• Soil/media preparation with amendments and disinfection for growth media.
• Identify common insects and diseases; apply pesticides, fertilizers, and growth regulators.
• Transplant plants and/or turf; maintain experimental plots.
• Prune plants to correct form; perform routine maintenance and repair of greenhouse machinery.
