Job summary

Department of Ecology in Washington state seeks two Greenhouse Gas Emissions Engineers (Environmental Engineer 2) to verify and improve the accuracy of greenhouse gas reporting under the Climate Commitment Act. You will review data, apply engineering principles, and mentor with senior staff while engaging regulated facilities.

You will build reporting tools and training, interact with various entities, and support rulemaking and policy implementation in a collaborative, evolving program.

Qualifications

  • Greenhouse gas and climate concepts knowledge and emissions calculations experience.
  • Ability to interpret federal and state greenhouse gas rules for multiple sectors.
  • Strong data evaluation, discrepancy identification, and corrective action skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation and using reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Review greenhouse gas report submissions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to calculate and review emissions data.
  • Analyze protocols and guidance for consistent program implementation.
  • Maintain relationships with reporting entities and respond to technical questions.
  • Conduct inspections and assess equipment/processes to verify design applications.
  • Identify complex issues in electricity and fuel markets.
  • Develop guidance documents and training for regulated sectors.
  • Assist with rulemakings for electricity and fuel sectors.
