Job summary

The Moses/Weitzman Health System in Middletown, CT seeks a Greenhouse Assistant & Environmental Education Coordinator to support daily greenhouse operations while developing engaging educational programs for students. You will blend hands-on horticulture with curriculum design to foster environmental stewardship and plant science knowledge, including hydroponics and a botanical collection.

Qualifications

Associate or bachelor’s degree in horticulture, environmental science, biology, education, agriculture, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience caring for plants in a greenhouse, nursery, garden, or similar setting, ideally with hydroponic technology.
Experience developing or teaching educational programs for students of varying ages.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in varying environmental conditions.
Valid CT driver’s license and ability to drive small transport vehicles.

Responsibilities

Develop partnerships with schools and educational organizations and create curriculum aligned with horticulture, plant science, sustainability, ecology, and agriculture.
Lead hands-on educational activities for students, school groups, and community participants.
Maintain greenhouse operations, monitor environmental conditions, and manage hydroponics system.
Assist with events, volunteer coordination, and community outreach.
Maintain records of plant inventories and care schedules.
