Job summary

Citizen Action of NY is seeking a Community Campaigns Organizer for New York City. You will basebuild and expand organizational membership through issue-based campaigns, working with community members and reporting to the Co-Director of Campaigns Organizing.

This hybrid role requires evenings/weekends, travel across New York State, and strong experience in organizing and strategic outreach. Salary ranges from $64,405 to $68,619 with comprehensive benefits and a unionized workplace.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years organizing experience, with at least 2 in paid roles.
• At least 1 year basebuilding: phone banking, canvassing, tabling, workshops.
• At least 1 year in issue campaign tactics or event planning and lobbying.
• Willing to learn training methodology and work shoulder-to-shoulder with members.
• Track progress using organizational data systems to assess impact.
• Familiar with Google Drive and Zoom; preferred VAN/Scale to Win/Mobilize/Action Network.
• Ability to connect with diverse communities and adapt planning needs.
• Flexible with work planning, evenings/weekends, and travel.

Responsibilities

• Base Building/Outreach/Recruitment – grow organizational membership via campaigns and outreach.
• Leadership Development – train volunteers in strategy, event planning, media interactions.
• Administrative – manage data entry and work with staff on recruitment scripts and lists.
• Legislative – craft outreach strategies aligned with political priorities.
• Campaigns – plan and execute local actions connected to statewide efforts.
• Electoral – recruit leaders for organizational governance and leadership roles.
• Communications – collect stories for emails, social media, and campaigns.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
