Job summary

The Washington Post is seeking an journalism intern to contribute across the newsroom, focusing on data-driven storytelling. You will write, edit and help design multi-format outputs, including maps, databases and news apps, while learning from seasoned journalists in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline.
• Interest in data visualization, maps or interactive experiences to tell stories.
• Proficient in CSS3, HTML5, jQuery and JavaScript.
• Experience with databases, XML, JSON, PHP and/or Django.
• Commitment to accuracy, clarity and journalistic rigor.

Responsibilities

• Report and write articles, edit copy, and assist with photography, video, graphics and audio.
• Develop audience strategy and perform data analyses to inform storytelling.
• Create data-driven maps, databases, widgets and mobile tools for news applications.
• Collaborate with reporters and editors to present information across platforms.
