Job summary

VCU School of the Arts seeks a Graphic Designer to produce visual communications across print, digital and web platforms. The role collaborates closely with the Art Director to turn concepts into finished work for recruitment, development, and communications goals.

The position ensures a consistent visual identity across all VCUarts materials and partners with the Communications and Marketing team, including the Qatar office, to align content with institutional priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design (B.F.A. preferred) or equivalent professional experience in design.
  • 2+ years of professional design experience with growth in responsibility.
  • Experience collaborating with art directors, copywriters, photographers, etc.
  • Knowledge of typography, layout, print production, and design for web/digital platforms; strong attention to detail.
  • Experience applying established brand guidelines in projects; strong portfolio.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; able to present design choices to stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Portfolio demonstrating across print, digital and web platforms.
  • Commitment to respectful, professional collaboration in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and design layouts for magazines, viewbooks, mailers, posters, ads, events, signage and environmental graphics.
  • Collaborate with creative team and internal clients; incorporate feedback from leadership.
  • Manage production schedules; liaise with print vendors; travel locally for proofs and press checks as needed.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print and digital output with correct color, resolution, and accessibility standards.
