Job description

Mid-Level Graphic Designer- Remote US Only!

At Salas O’Brien we tell our clients that we’re engineered for impact. This passion for making a difference applies just as much to our team as it does to our projects. That’s why we’re committed to living our values every day: inspiring, achieving, and connecting as shared owners of our success with a focus on a sustainable future.

Building for the long-term means that all team members can expect to work on amazing projects with a people-first approach to problem solving. It also means that each member of our team has truly limitless potential to build a unique, meaningful, and high-impact career—and they’ll receive great total rewards along the way.

About Us:

Founded in 1975, Salas O’Brien is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm focused on achieving impact for our clients, our team, and the world. We know that tomorrow’s requirements are today’s opportunities, and we are here to design lasting solutions for pressing challenges.

We work across a variety of industries providing integrated engineering and consulting services. Our specialized experience includes design for data centers, healthcare, science and technology, high-rise buildings, clean energy, education, and other building types as well as structural and building sciences, infrastructure asset management, advanced robotics, and more.

Our technical expertise is paired with an exceptional team of business development, human resources, finance and accounting, information technology, and marketing professionals, all of whom play a key role in bringing our commitments to life every day.

Job Summary: Salas O’Brien is seeking a talented and experienced Graphic Designer to elevate our brand and support key strategic initiatives during a time of rapid growth and increased visibility. As part of our Marketing & Communications team, and working closely with our Brand & Creative Manager, this designer will play a pivotal role in advancing our brand systems and producing high-impact visuals—from presentations and digital collateral to infographics and event materials—that align with our brand and business goals. This position is critical to maintaining design quality, accelerating delivery timelines, and partnering across our organization to advance key priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce a wide range of visual materials, including presentations, social media graphics, digital collateral, print assets, infographics, and internal templates
  • Translate complex ideas into clean, compelling visuals that align with Salas O’Brien’s brand standards and messaging
  • Collaborate with marketing team members, business leaders, and technical staff to deliver and build consensus around timely, high-quality design solutions
  • Contribute to the evolution and consistency of our visual identity across platforms and media
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing long-term initiatives with quick-turn requests
  • Support team member training and development by sharing design best practices and offering feedback when needed
  • Stay current on design trends, tools, and technologies to continually elevate the quality and impact of our creative work

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field

Technical Skills:

  • Design Expertise
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional design experience
  • Demonstrated experience evolving and elevating brand systems within complex organizations
  • Strong understanding of layout, typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy
  • Ability to create designs that are on-brand, clean, modern, and appropriate to context
  • Experience designing for both print and digital formats, including presentations, social media, interactive PDFs, and large-format banners
  • Skilled in visual storytelling, especially for data and complex technical topics
  • Experience supporting mergers & acquisitions, including transitional branding (preferred)
  • Technical Proficiency
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Working knowledge of presentation software, with the ability to design professional, brand-aligned presentations
  • Familiarity with collaborative platforms such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Teams, or project management tools like Asana
  • Experience with Canva, Figma, or other design systems/tools for scalable content production preferred
  • Strong ability to communicate design concepts and rationale to non-designers
  • Receptive to feedback and able to balance creative vision with practical constraints
  • Comfortable collaborating across departments and working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to contribute to and help uphold brand guidelines

Time & Project Management:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • Self-directed with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Able to prioritize work based on strategic value, not just request order

Strategic Thinking & Growth Mindset:

  • Sees design as a tool to support business strategy, not just aesthetics
  • Eager to learn, grow, and contribute to the long-term evolution of the brand
  • Able to distinguish when “good enough” is appropriate and when polish matters most
