The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) is the hub of the Conservative/Masorti Movement in North America, connecting more than 550 synagogues and 150 youth group chapters with the resources they need to succeed. We also power engagement initiatives like YALA for young adults and ExploringJudaism.org to share our Torah and love of Judaism with 40,000+ viewers each month (and counting). Everything we do serves to promote our way of doing Jewish: joyful, dynamic and inclusive. All in all, USCJ affiliates and programs reach more than 700,000 Jews across the continent annually – and we plan to double that within a decade. To do that, we need your help.
Our Team’s Core Values
At USCJ, our team seeks to live our core values every single day: Collaboration, Dedication to the Mission, Generosity of Spirit, Innovation and Adaptability, Integrity, Solution Orientation and Striving for Excellence are guiding principles that shape our culture and drive our success.
The DepartmentofMarketingand Communications(MarCom) communicates USCJ’s mission, programs and achievements to our stakeholders in the Conservative Jewish movement and beyond. Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer works with internal and external stakeholders on visual materials for USCJ and its sub-brands, including USY, YALA and Nativ, as well as Movement-wide initiatives and collaborative projects with organizational partners. The key areas of responsibility for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Digital Content Creation: Design high-quality graphics and short videos (e.g. Reels) adaptable to multiple platforms and optimized for social media, email marketing, digital advertisements and website interfaces.
- Print Collateral: Develop layouts for marketing brochures, presentation slide decks, corporate stationery, event signage and promotional merchandise.
- Member Resources: Develop promotional assets and ready-to-use resources for USCJ’s holiday toolkits and other initiatives that enable member synagogues to communicate effectively with their own communities.
- Production Management: Prepare, format and package final digital and print-ready files (bleed, margins, color profiles, etc.) to ensure error-free publishing and production.
- Brand Stewardship: Maintain, thoughtfully apply and expand upon established visual identity guidelines to ensure brand consistency across all channels.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with MarCom team colleagues, program staff, organizational leadership, lay leaders, teen leaders and external partners to develop effective visual communications. Proactively clarify ambiguous requests, identify missing information, ask targeted questions and help stakeholders refine their ideas into actionable design solutions. Collaborate with vendors to translate team member ideas, preferences and priorities into actionable solutions.
- Feedback Integration: Incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders efficiently and constructively, managing revisions while maintaining design quality, consistency and technical accuracy. Evaluate and reconcile differing perspectives, exercise judgment when feedback conflicts and communicate when additional clarification or decision-making is needed.
- Project and Time Management: Manage multiple concurrent design projects from initial concept through final delivery, balancing competing priorities and meeting established deadlines. Independently establish and track project milestones, communicate progress and proactively flag potential delays or obstacles. Embrace established project management workflows, including task tracking, timelines, review processes and approvals.
- Digital Asset Management: Maintain a highly organized, accessible system for digital design files, templates, photographs, video footage and other creative assets. Ensure that drafts and final deliverables are consistently named, categorized, stored and available to the MarCom team.
- Human-Centered Production and Responsible AI Usage: Prioritize original, human-created design work, using professional design skills and creative judgment to develop visual assets that reflect USCJ's identity, values and audiences. Use generative AI tools selectively to improve workflow efficiency for supporting tasks, such as rough video edits or preliminary production assistance, rather than to generate original visual assets from scratch. Maintain human creative direction, quality control and accountability for all final deliverables.
- Stay up-to-date on graphic design trends and best practices.
- Frame a positive and supportive work environment with USCJ's shared staff values of: Collaboration , Dedication to the Mission , Generosity of Spirit , Innovation and Adaptability , Integrity , Solution Orientation and Striving for Excellence ; demonstrate and hold team members accountable for "living the values" in daily work relationships and work product/outcomes.
