Job Description
REPORTS TO People Leader, Marketing & Communications
We're looking for a Graphic Designer with range, speed and serious website skills. You'll design for donors, corporate leaders, volunteers, the nonprofits we fund and the people looking for help. That covers annual reports and sponsor decks, t-shirts, banners, street maps and 211 flyers.
You'll also edit content. Every piece that leaves your desk should read as clearly as it looks. And you'll jump between programs constantly, so you need to be able to switch from Project Joy to a workplace giving deck to a Greenville Together web page without losing quality.
Everything we make starts with listening. We spend time with the people we serve, the nonprofits we fund, the employers who give through their workplaces, the volunteers who give their time and the donors who make it all possible. What we hear shapes our programs, our messages and the content we create. We work alongside the people closest to the challenges, not on their behalf. Inside the team, specific and honest feedback is how the work gets better. We give it freely and expect the same in return.
Every one of these areas needs design, often at the same time:
The heart of our work. Helping people understand what it takes to get by in Greenville County, told with respect for the people living it.
211, Ride United and VITA. Making sure people know where to turn and how to get help.
Greenville Together and OnTrack Greenville. Each has its own brand, website and audience.
Elevating the nonprofits we fund and the work we do together.
Thanking, informing and inspiring the people who invest in our work, at every giving level.
Workplace giving, employer relationships and corporate volunteerism.
Inspiring people to give their time and celebrating them when they do.
Women United, Young Professionals and AAL. Growing and engaging our giving networks.
Hands On Greenville Day, School Tools, Gratefull GVL and Project Joy. Each one has its own audience, sponsors and identity.
Design flyers, one-sheets, brochures, postcards, rack cards and resource cards, many in English and Spanish.
Lead layout and design of our annual report.
Create event materials for our four signature events: banners, signs, directional signage, step-and-repeats, name badges and street maps.
Design t-shirts and merch, including our yearly event and campaign shirts, and prep files to vendor specs.
Manage print production: proofs, specs, vendor timelines and quality checks.
Produce ad creative in every size a media buy calls for: social, digital display, print, outdoor and digital billboards.
Resize, version and deliver files to vendor specs on deadline.
Track what's running where and when, and keep every version organized.
Design sponsorship packets for each signature event.
Build presentation decks for workplace giving campaigns, corporate kickoffs, board meetings and leadership presentations.
Create and maintain deck and one-sheet templates the whole staff can use.
Design, build and maintain pages in WordPress and Elementor across United Way of Greenville County, Greenville Together and OnTrack Greenville.
Make every page responsive, fast and accessible, with clear paths for someone looking for help on mobile.
Write scoped custom CSS and light HTML to solve what the page builder can't.
Create web graphics, banners, landing pages and blog visuals.
Work with our hosting team on updates, plugins and site health.
Edit and proof copy inside layouts so the words and design work as one.
Tighten content for plain language and readability, especially for direct service materials.
Catch errors before they go to print.
Design social graphics and campaign visuals.
Create simple motion graphics and edit short video for social and web.
Keep the brand consistent across United Way of Greenville County and each initiative’s own visual identity.
Maintain our brand guidelines, template library and asset library.
Present concepts with clear reasoning, take specific feedback and deliver revisions quickly.
Test key pieces with the people who will use them. If a parent can’t understand the 211 flyer in five seconds, we redesign it.
5+ years of professional graphic design experience.
Expert skills in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
Extensive hands-on WordPress experience. Elementor is strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Print production experience, including large format, signage and apparel.
Multi-page layout experience such as reports, magazines or booklets.
A portfolio that shows range: web, print, ads, decks, signage and apparel.
The ability to manage many projects and deadlines at once without dropping quality.
Strong proofreading and editing skills.
Availability for some evening and weekend events.
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or a related field
Motion graphics experience in After Effects
