The Opportunity…

GRID Alternatives is seeking a creative and dynamic Communications Manager, Design and Brand with strong intercultural awareness to join our growing communications team. This role is essential in elevating GRID’s brand, mission, and impact while positioning the organization as a leader in renewable energy access for economic and environmental justice communities.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Storytelling and Communications, the Design and Brand Manager will oversee brand identity, produce high-quality visual assets, and collaborate across departments to support GRID’s marketing and communications strategy. The ideal candidate is a skilled visual communicator with a proven track record in brand management, graphic design, and marketing content creation that drives growth, client acquisition, and fundraising. They should be highly organized, able to lead and execute creative strategies, and comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback, particularly in the areas of equity, inclusion, and diversity. Strong collaboration skills, adaptability, and a commitment to personal and professional growth in an inclusive work environment are key to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

Lead the development of creative visual concepts that align with our mission, and support storytelling initiatives that humanize our work
Lead the design and creative development of internal and public-facing materials, including GRID’s annual Impact Report, innovative program collateral, and materials for emerging initiatives, combining innovation and storytelling to highlight the organization’s achievements and support its goals effectively
Maintain and organize design assets in Canva, ensuring ease of access and consistent application of branding elements across teams, and design in Adobe Creative Suite, as needed
Lead graphic design and develop improved internal presentation templates for staff use
Support sub-brands and regional offices with the review and creation of graphic design assets, ensuring adherence to GRID’s brand guidelines
Lead the creation of new marketing materials and update outdated collateral to reflect GRID’s rebranding efforts
Collaborate with the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager to develop high-quality brand assets for marketing collateral, fundraising campaigns, and brand awareness initiatives
Maintain GRID’s photo and video library, ensuring easy access to high-quality visual assets
Support GRID’s main website (Drupal) with updates, including adding images, graphics, and new content to enhance user experience
Lead website content management and development, supporting regional offices with troubleshooting and updates, and optimizing website update operations
Optimize SEO and manage SEM strategies, providing web analytics insights to inform digital strategies
Support the organization’s microsites and landing pages, such as the Energy for All website and Low-Income Policy Guide website (WordPress), with updates and maintenance
Develop marketing materials for major programs like the Workforce Development Installation Basics Training (IBT) program and emerging initiatives such as Solar for All
Produce content and deliverables for GRID’s corporate funders, ensuring alignment with brand messaging and visual identity
Collaborate with the headquarters and organization-wide Communications teams at the regional level to lead thought partnership and support the development, creation, and execution of multi-channel digital campaigns, including website updates, blogs, and social media platforms.
Develop social media graphics and templates to support GRID’s platforms and assist with video production in collaboration with the Senior Director of Storytelling
Partner with headquarters departments to collaborate on programmatic brand marketing, visual strategies, and overall collaboration on the organizational communications strategy

What You Need To Bring To This Role…

Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, communications, graphic design, or related field, OR equivalent work experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing and communications, with a focus on graphic design and digital/print communications, ideally in nonprofit and/or renewable energy/environment sectors.
Strong proficiency in graphic design and content production, including developing high-quality print and digital collateral, video, photography, and written materials such as blogs and newsletters.
Demonstrated expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud applications (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere) and Canva for design asset creation and organization.
Proven ability to manage rebranding initiatives, including creating and updating branded assets to ensure consistency and alignment across all materials.
Experience working with web platforms including Drupal and WordPress, with the ability to manage and update website content, graphics, and images.
Working knowledge of SEO optimization, SEM strategies, and web analytics tools to support digital campaigns and website performance.
Basic knowledge of HTML for website content management.
Demonstrated project management and leadership experience, with a track record of meeting deadlines and delivering high-impact materials.
Deep understanding of or ability to quickly gain knowledge of renewable energy, environmental justice, and related issues.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.

It would be great if you also had…

Experience managing social media platforms, including creating and scheduling posts, as well as tracking analytics.
Familiarity with email marketing platforms and mailing list segmentation and management.
Knowledge of Campaign Monitor or similar email marketing tools.
Successful track record of executing digital fundraising campaigns.
Experience with website design and content development.
Fluency in Spanish or another language.
Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

Where you will sit & the places you may go…

This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($75k- $85k annually), plus the benefits listed below.
