Job summary

North Carolina Central University is seeking an adjunct faculty member to support student learning in graphic design and innovation through in-person, lecture and studio-based instruction. This role focuses on hands-on teaching, ongoing critique, and helping students connect traditional design practices with newer, cutting-edge approaches across web and digital experiences.

The position is based in Durham, NC (onsite) and centers on teaching one to three face-to-face classes during the semester.

Qualifications

• Master's degree (MA/MFA) in graphic design or related field (ideal)
• Professional experience in graphic design, motion media, or digital storytelling
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud; emphasis on Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
• Experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating design learning with strong communication and organizational skills
• Strong portfolio showing conceptual depth, aesthetic refinement, and technical skill

Responsibilities

• Prepare students for careers through in-person lecture or studio-based learning, including critiques and guided exposure to both traditional and emerging creative approaches.
• Provide instruction for one to three face-to-face courses in graphic design and web, UX and UI design, for the full semester.
