Job summary

Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM seeks a Graphic Artist to conceptualize, design, and develop original visual communications that support the university’s identity across print and digital media.

You will collaborate with faculty, staff, and the Design Manager to produce publications, maintain branding consistency, and manage projects from concept to final production while upholding quality and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in graphic art, industrial art, commercial art, or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop publications including brochures, posters, ads, flyers, newsletters, and web pages.
• Exercise independent creative judgment in selecting concepts, typography, color and imagery in line with branding standards.
• Collaborate with the Design Manager in design, copyediting, layout, and photography selection.
• Manage publications through the project management process from request to final production.
• Maintain files for reference.
• Coordinate with internal and external printers to ensure correct printing and timely delivery.
• Participate in departmental planning and project planning.
• Regular and predictable attendance required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Overview

Position Summary: Under the limited supervision of the University Design Manager, the Graphic Artist independently conceptualizes, designs, and develops original visual communications and publications that advance the University's identity and effectively communicate messages to internal and external audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with University faculty, staff, and representatives in the development of publications, including brochures, posters, advertisements, flyers, tickets, newsletters, envelopes, magazine covers, newspaper ads, social media, and web pages.
• Exercise independent creative judgment in selecting and developing visual concepts, design approaches, typography, color, imagery, composition, and other graphic elements, consistent with University branding standards and communication objectives
• Collaborate with the university Design Manager in the publication creation process, which may include design, copywriting, text editing, layout design, and photography choice.
• Manage assigned publications through the project management process from the initial requested design to final production, exercising professional judgment regarding design development, revisions, production specifications, and final visual presentation
• Maintain files for reference.
• Communicate with internal and external printers to ensure publications are printed correctly and in a timely manner.
• Participate in departmental strategic planning and project planning.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in graphic art, industrial art, commercial art, or a closely related discipline, OR an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including a good working knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
• Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demand and Working Conditions

• Work is generally performed during normal hours, but may include evening and weekend hours
• Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
