Volunteer Grant Writer

Employer: F.O.C.U.S

Location: Remote

Salary: Volunteer / $65,000 after 6 months or after 25% of fundraising goal reached, whichever comes first

Length of Appointment: 6 months

Time Commitment: Approximately 5-10 hours per month (flexible based on grant cycles)

Closing date: May 28, 2025

Position Summary

This position supports the Regional Development/Fundraising department. Assist with research and documentation relating to grants and foundations.

F.O.C.U.S Inc., a budding non-profit focused on community development, economic stimulation, health, and education, is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Volunteer Grant Writer to help secure funding that supports our mission. The Grant Writer will research potential grant opportunities, draft compelling proposals, and assist with reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research prospective grant-makers, including charitable giving history, Form 990s, and grant guidelines.
  • Draft grant proposals, LOIs, and additional materials.
  • Assist with writing final proposals, impact reports, and preparing stewardship materials.
  • Help brainstorm creative and strategic ways to connect our mission to a foundation's priorities.
  • Compile internal data on service delivery by utilizing RC View to create a map of FOCUS’s impact within a donor’s community.
  • Interview local volunteers and clients to capture stories and quotes of mission delivery that can be used in proposals.
  • Compile and archive completed grants per grant management protocol and audit compliance.
  • Create and maintain grant calendar to track proposal and report deadlines.
  • Attend donor visits where appropriate to share mission moments.

  • Ability to plan, organize and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate and organize multiple functions and activities
  • Work with extremely tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with GSuite programs is required
  • Ability to effectively maintain the security of sensitive and confidential information
  • Willingness to comply with current F.O.C.U.S policies
  • Experience writing grants and crafting compelling stories is a major plus
