Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Town's Public Information Officer and primary media contact; coordinate public information, media relations, and external communications across Town departments.
  • Develop, coordinate, and disseminate accurate and timely public information through channels including during emergencies and significant Town events.
  • Develop and coordinate Town communication strategies and messaging across traditional and social media to support priorities, community engagement, tourism, and economic development.
  • Administer Town grants activities: identify funding opportunities, coordinate grant applications, and support grant compliance, reporting, and administration.
  • Provide professional guidance to Town leadership and departments on public information, communications, media relations, and grant activities.
  • Coordinate with Town departments, government agencies, community organizations, media, and other stakeholders.
  • Support Emergency Operations Center and emergency public information and communication activities.

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Serves as the Town's Public Information Officer and is responsible for coordinating external communications, public information, media relations, and emergency communications. Administers the Town's grant activities, including identifying funding opportunities and coordinating grant development, compliance, and reporting.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a specialist-level professional classification in the program's job family and is responsible for providing subject-matter expertise in public information, communications, and grant administration. Work involves independently planning, coordinating, and executing complex communications and grant activities; providing professional guidance and recommendations; coordinating across departments and external stakeholders; and assisting with policy and program development within assigned functional areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Serves as the Town's Public Information Officer and primary media contact; coordinates public information, media relations, and external communications across Town departments.
  • Develops, coordinates, and disseminates accurate and timely public information through appropriate communication channels, including during emergencies and significant Town events.
  • Develops and coordinates Town communication strategies, content, and messaging across traditional and social media channels to support organizational priorities, community engagement, tourism, and economic development initiatives.
  • Administers the Town's grant activities, including identifying funding opportunities, coordinating grant applications, and working with departments to support grant compliance, reporting, and administration.
  • Provides professional guidance to Town leadership and departments regarding public information, communications, media relations, and grant activities.
  • Coordinates with Town departments, governmental agencies, community organizations, media representatives, and other stakeholders within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as a member of the Emergency Operations Center and supports emergency public information and communication activities.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
