Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 4-8 years of related experience.
  • Two years of grant writing experience in a nonprofit.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong writing, editing, and synthesis of information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • CRM software experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand funding priorities with staff and document program activities.
  • Draft narratives, budgets, outcomes, metrics, and supporting documents.
  • Write funding proposals, letters of inquiry, and annual reports.
  • Manage the grants process calendar and CRM activity.
  • Cultivate and steward foundation donors and prospects.
  • Participate in Development staff and strategy meetings.
  • Research new grant opportunities locally and nationally.

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) is a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts center located in the heart of downtown Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Founded in 1967, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center presents work by diverse artists, from the vernacular to classically trained and from local to global perspectives. JMKAC establishes a community locally and nationally with its rotating, original contemporary art exhibitions, live performances and events, classes, workshops, and on-site preschool.

We are currently seeking a dynamic Grants Manager to lead our efforts in securing foundation, corporate, and government grants. About The Role

In this role, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape compelling proposals and budgets, build and steward relationships with funders, and identify new sources of support. Work Schedule

Hours of work include daytime hours Monday-Friday and occasionally Saturday and Sunday to meet staffing and/or event needs.

Essential Job Duties
  • Initiate and partner with staff across the organization to understand funding priorities, document and articulate program activities, outcomes, and intended impact, plan grant and report submissions, and corporate sponsorship reports.
  • Initiate ideas and input from program and finance staff that inform the creation of project narratives, outcomes, objectives, metrics, budgets, and other supporting documents.
  • Synthesize organizational information to write funding proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports focused on supporting programs in the annual operating budget.
  • Manage the administration of the organization-wide grants process, and the grants and reports calendar, including deadlines, contact and relationship details, and move management activity in CRM, tracking progress toward goals.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation donors and donor prospects, both local and national, directly or by supporting the primary relationship manager.
  • Actively participate in Development staff meetings, planning, and prospect strategy meetings with the Executive Director and Development Director.
  • Research new grant opportunities, both local and national.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or 4 - 8 years of equivalent experience in a related field
  • Two years of professional grant writing experience in a nonprofit organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and listening skills)
  • Solid writing skills and the ability to edit and synthesize information in a compelling and accurate way
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software is a plus
