Grants Coordinator, College of Engineering
Overview

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Grants Coordinator, College of Engineering under Letter of Appointment (LOA), temporary, fix-term, part-time.

ROLE of the POSITION

The Grant Coordinator of the College of Engineering position will work on a temporary/fixed term Letter of Appointment, 60% FTE, under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Studies, and Computing. This position will assist the College of Engineering faculty with the process of developing grants, to ensure that grant proposals are submitted accurately and timely to the UNLV Office of Sponsored Programs. This position will review and edit proposals to ensure readability.

Additional responsibilities include understanding the proposal submission guidelines for various agencies, ensuring that submitted proposals are in compliance with stated guidelines.

Grant-related duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the college's faculty and professional staff as well as staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure that proposal submissions conform to federal, state, and university regulations.
  • Becoming knowledgeable of the budgetary regulations of the university and the various funding agencies.
  • Preparing grant applications including cost-sharing documents.
  • Advising faculty on developing budgets for proposals.
  • Educating and training new faculty on the grant submission process.
  • Supporting and counseling faculty and professional staff in terms of identifying potential funding opportunities for faculty based on the expertise within the college.
  • Compiling information describing the college resources.
  • Compiling grant submission data and preparing related reports.
  • Compiling required financial and statistical data as related to grants.
  • Reviewing and evaluating applications for sub-grants from and to other entities and collaborative efforts with other universities.
  • Maintaining databases of relevant grant supporting materials including biographical sketches, facilities, and current and pending activities, etc. according to the funding agencies’ requirements.

Additionally, this position will help with develops promotional material describing research within the college, creates responses to requests for specific information from industry, state, or federal agencies, interacts and suggests modifications to the work of a graphic designer if such input is required within a proposal, and researches, develops, recommends and implements long-range plans and projects in collaboration with other stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires aBachelor Degree in English, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) andat least 3-years of related professional experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

Required:

  • Knowledge of various engineering and computer science fields and current research funding areas.
  • Working knowledge of the operation/function of research funding mechanism, particularly in the fields of computer science and engineering.
  • Political and interpersonal savvy, integrity, and strong ethics and values.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the university research mission and Top Tier goals
  • Ability to synthesize information from technical and non-technical disciplines and strategically identify meaningful content.
  • Ability to write in a variety of styles under time constraint.
  • Ability to manage/negotiate competing interests. Self-starter who is able to manage multiple projects and prioritize issues under deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate strong contacts and trust relationships with the college faculty as well as the university at large.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of word processing, graphics, publishing, and database management programs.
  • Excellent and strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree provides clinical and academic knowledge of the scientific research process, experience in data collection, and critical thinking skills. These are necessary components of a research proposal that should be understood.
