Job summary

A New Leaf is seeking a Budgets and Grants Accountant to manage financial administration across federal, state, local, and private funding sources. The role includes budgeting, grant billing, reporting, and compliance, working with Finance Leadership to ensure accurate records and timely reimbursements.

Ideal candidates bring 2–4 years of nonprofit accounting experience, an associate degree in a related field (bachelor's preferred), and proficiency with accounting software and MS Excel.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• Two to four years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in nonprofit or government-funded setting.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preparation, review, and submission of all grant-related financial reports and billing within deadlines.
• Maintain grant-specific billing methods and monitor budgets to ensure compliant, timely billing.
• Develop accurate grant budgets for funding applications and proposals.
• Review grant agreements to identify funding amounts, billing methods, deadlines, and obligations.
• Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly grant billings and reimbursement requests with supporting docs.
• Record grant transactions in the general ledger and run monthly grant income statements.
• Monitor grant matching requirements and escalate compliance concerns as needed.
• Track grant expenditures by budget line and coordinate budget revisions with staff.
• Maintain grant billing/reimbursement logs and provide status updates to Finance Leadership.
• Participate in grant drawdowns and prepare required financial reports.
• Represent Finance during grantor monitoring visits, audits, and reviews.
• Maintain organized financial records per policies and standards.
• Ensure timely completion of tasks with adherence to grant/contract requirements.
