Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) develops and manages service enriched, inclusive residential communities, ensuring access to affordable, secure, quality housing that creates the foundation for our residents to grow and thrive.

CEDC PROPERTY AND ASSET MANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY

CEDC’s philosophy is that excellent property management is an essential part of its overall construction of affordable housing activities. CEDC provides a superior living environment for its residents. CEDC implements a team management approach to its work with particular coordination between its activities within its Property Management, Real Estate Development and Resident and Community Services Divisions.

THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Grants Writer will support the organization’s fundraising and resource development efforts through effective grant research, writing, and submission on a part-time basis.

The Grants Writer works closely with the CEO and collaborates with program, finance, and operations staff to develop competitive grant proposals that align with CEDC’s mission and strategic priorities. This role is focused on proposal development and written grant deliverables, rather than full-cycle grant management.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research, write, and submit grant applications and letters of inquiry for government, foundation, and corporate funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and internal staff to gather program narratives, outcomes, budgets, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain a grant submission calendar and track deadlines in coordination with the CEO.
  • Assist with preparation of basic grant reports and written updates as assigned.
  • Support limited funder communications related to submissions, as directed by the CEO.
  • Assist with other grant-related writing projects as assigned.
  • Attend all NOFA and RFP meetings to evaluate grant applications and develop a path toward successful application submittals.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Five (5) plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Five (5) plus years of professional experience in grant making.
  • Proven track record of writing and securing successful grants for a nonprofit organization.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence and engage a wide range of supporters and build long-term relationships.
  • Ability to work independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the organization.
  • High energy and passion for housing and community development.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational and computer skills, including Word and Excel as well as the ability to develop graphs and flow charts highlighting critical data.
  • Experience with Bloomerang and Foundation Search a plus.
  • Experience with creating, implementing and updating necessary enhancements to a grants database.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field.

LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A valid California driver’s License and proof of automobile liability insurance.
