United American Indian Involvement, Inc. (UAII) seeks a Grant Specialist to identify, research, write, and submit proposals to fund programs that support Native communities and health, housing, and prevention services.

Description

The Grant Specialist is responsible for identifying, researching, developing, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding that supports UAII's mission, programs, and strategic initiatives. This position works closely with program leadership, finance staff, subject matter experts, and community partners to develop compelling funding applications, maintain grant calendars, coordinate proposal development, and ensure timely submission of all grant opportunities. The Grant Specialist is responsible for researching Federal, State, Tribal, local, and private funding opportunities, with a strong emphasis on funding sources that support American Indian and Alaska Native communities, healthcare, behavioral health, housing, community development, cultural preservation, child welfare, and victim services.

The Grant Specialist supports the organization's long-term sustainability by maintaining relationships with funders, monitoring funding trends, and assisting with grant reporting and compliance requirements.

The Grant Specialist may work fully remote or on a hybrid schedule.

Requirements
  • Identify, research, and evaluate grant opportunities from Federal, State, Tribal, local government, corporate, and private foundation sources focusing on Native American Indian/Alaska Native/Indigenous communities
  • Assist with submission of federal financial reporting or invoicing
  • Ability to navigate federal systems for reporting and applications
  • Develop and maintain an organization-wide grants calendar and application tracking system.
  • Lead the development, writing, editing, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with program staff, leadership, finance, and other departments to gather information necessary for grant applications.
  • Develop project narratives, program descriptions, objectives, work plans, performance measures, and budgets.
  • Monitor grant announcements from government agencies including but not limited to Tribal Funding Registry, the Administration for Native Americans (ANA), Indian Health Service (IHS), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Department of Justice (DOJ), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and private foundations.
  • Ensure all grant applications comply with funder requirements and submission deadlines.
  • Assist in preparing grant reports, renewals, and continuation applications.
  • Maintain accurate grant records, files, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to identify funding priorities and align grant opportunities with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with funders and grant-making organizations.
  • Participate in grant audit meetings as required.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as needed for Company events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Health, Social Work, Native American Studies, or a related field required. A comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional grant writing and/or grant administration experience with demonstrated success securing public and private grant funding.
  • Experience researching, writing, and submitting Federal, State, Tribal, and foundation grants.
  • Demonstrated experience developing grant narratives, logic models, budgets, performance measures, and work plans.
  • Experience working with Native American/Alaska Native/Indigenous community.
  • Knowledge of funding opportunities available to Native American/Alaska Native/Indigenous community.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and research skills.
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines and complex application processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, grant management systems, and online grant portals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Public Health, Nonprofit Management, Native American Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience writing Federal, State, Tribal, and foundation grants.
  • Five (5) or more years of grant writing experience.
  • Experience writing grants for American Indian and Alaska Native health, behavioral health, housing, victim services, education, workforce development, cultural preservation, or child welfare programs.
  • Experience with Administration for Native Americans (ANA), Indian Health Service (IHS), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), SAMHSA, DOJ, HRSA, CDC, and HUD funding opportunities.
  • Grant Professional Certified (GPC) credential.
  • Experience working within a nonprofit healthcare or Tribal-serving organization.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
  • Knowledge of grant development, proposal writing, budgeting, and funding compliance.
  • Knowledge of Federal grant regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian and Alaska Native cultures, communities, and Tribal sovereignty.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), and grant guidelines.
  • Ability to gather and organize data from multiple departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leadership, program staff, funders, and community partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently while managing long‑term projects and competing deadlines.
