Job summary

Alternative Family Services in San Leandro is seeking a Program Development Proposal Writer to lead government funding efforts, respond to RFPs, and craft persuasive grant narratives. Based in northern California with travel to AFS offices, you will coordinate across departments, advise leadership on funding strategies, ensure compliance, and help diversify the agency's funding portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit grant writing and management experience.
  • Excellent writing skills; translate program impact into compelling narratives.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex proposals.
  • Experience with counties’ procurement processes and responses to RFPs.
  • Commitment to serving diverse children, youth and families with cultural humility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; high integrity and organization.
  • Represent AFS with public agency partners, funders and stakeholders.
  • Pass background checks and hold a California driver’s license with insurance.
  • May drive and travel between AFS offices as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor county websites for program development opportunities and identify RFPs.
  • Advise leadership regarding funding opportunities, risks, compliance requirements, and strategy.
  • Collaborate with program leadership in meetings with county partners to review outcomes and diversification.
  • Track grant requirements, deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate RFP processes for new programs and renewals; prepare narratives articulating outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource to CEO and CPO for program development and funding opportunities.
  • Stay current in industry developments by participating in state associations.
  • May participate in contract administration to ensure spending aligns with funding requirements.
