Job summary

Horace Mann Laboratory School in Salem, MA seeks an instructional paraprofessional (.5 FTE) for SY 2026-2027 to support classroom instruction and student needs. This role works under the Salem Public Schools umbrella and is governed by the PSRP contract.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers, implementing accommodations, and helping maintain a positive school climate. Strong collaboration, organization, and commitment to diverse learners are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 48 college credits or an Associate degree, or passing scores on ParaPro or WorkKeys.
• Minimum of one year experience with elementary-aged children.
• Second language proficiency a plus (Spanish and/or Portuguese).
• US work authorization required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate understanding of students' profiles and learning needs; read IEPs and engage in related PD.
• Support and collaborate with general and special education teachers.
• Reinforce lessons with individuals or small groups.
• Assist with classroom management and supervision.
• Administer behavior modification programs.
• Assist in implementing accommodations and strategies for instruction.
• Cover classroom during teacher absence.
• Escort and assist students throughout the building and on community experiences.
• Follow supervisor directions and ensure student safety.
