Job summary

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York seeks two Assistant Archivists in its Archives, Library and Research Collections Department for a three-year fixed-term project funded by the Leon Levy Foundation. Responsibilities include processing MoMA exhibition records from 2001–2010 and contributing to finding aids and reference services.

Qualifications include a BA, preferably an MLIS or archival certificate, and 1–3 years of archival processing experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. Background in art history and MLIS or master’s with archival studies certificate strongly preferred.
• One to three years experience processing archival collections; research in art history.
• Knowledge of 20th- and 21st-century art and related reference sources.
• Strong teamwork, flexibility, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; detail-oriented and able to prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

• Survey the collections to be processed.
• Conduct preliminary research and draft processing plans with Metadata and Systems staff.
• Process collections per professional guidelines; perform preservation tasks and re-house materials.
• Create finding aids with context and related collections; describe materials.
• Assist with reference activities and daily operations of the Archives, Library, and Research Collections Department.
