This position oversees the management of sponsored projects and performs a wide range of technical accounting analysis and reporting within assigned areas of TAMU-CC sponsored research administration. This candidate will serve as a mentor to fellow research administrators. Promotes customer satisfaction by assisting project administrators and TAMU-CC management in the resolution of problems and complex issues. Participates in coordination meetings with Office of Sponsored Research Administration (OSRA) staff members to identify and correct weaknesses and implement improvements. Promotes excellent communication between all internal and external customers. This is a Remote or Hybrid eligible position. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Sponsored Projects Accounting: 60%

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of sponsored project accounting and generally accepted accounting principles.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of OMB 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal awards.
  3. Reads and interprets sponsored agreements and associated regulations to determine risk and appropriate accounting treatment.
  4. Provides expert guidance to project administrators and principal investigators to effectively manage research projects and resolve complex issues.
  5. Reviews and approves new and updated project information in Financial Accounting Management Information Service (FAMIS) including budget entries.
  6. Establishes and maintains accounts in the accounting (FAMIS) and research administration (MAESTRO) systems including loading revenue and expense budget, billing requirements, facilities and administrative cost distribution, cost-sharing commitments, reporting requirements, sponsor, and TAMU-CC & TAMUS regulations.
  7. Reviews and submits cost-reimbursable and fixed-price invoices to sponsors and ensures expenses are reported in compliance with the project budget, with regulations stipulated by the granting agency and in accordance with TAMU-CC's fiscal policies and procedures.
  8. Responsible for Accounts Receivable collections.
  9. Investigates and solves purchasing, accounting, travel, and payroll errors.
  10. Reviews and submits revised budget requests as needed.
  11. Ensures that the close-out module in MAESTRO is completed accurately and in a timely manner at the end of a project.
  12. Consults with appropriate University staff in order to reconcile FAMIS accounts, troubleshooting as necessary.
  13. Responsible for preparing and submitting financial reports as required by sponsoring agencies.
  14. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency.

Sponsored Projects Compliance: 20%

  1. Maintains expert knowledge of OMB 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance, FAR clauses, State of Texas agency regulations, Cost Principles, and Audit requirements for federal awards and other regulations as needed.
  2. Reviews and approves Payroll Costing Allocations for accuracy, while monitoring Key Personnel level of effort to ensure compliance with OMB 2 CFR 200.
  3. Reviews and approves all financial transactions on sponsored projects to determine if the expenses are allowable, allocable and reasonable. This includes purchase requisitions, travel requests, travel expense reports and PCard purchases.
  4. Ensures that project deliverables are submitted in accordance with sponsor agreements.
  5. Aid in resolving sponsored project compliance with Export Control, Financial Conflict of Interest, IACUC and IRB regulations, freezing financial activity on a project until compliance issues are resolved. Consults with the Office of Research Compliance as needed. Elevates non-compliance issues to the Director for further action.
  6. Assists with federal, state and TAMU System audits and program reviews related to sponsored projects, including single audit requirements under OMB 2 CFR 200 subpart F.

Sponsored Projects Administration: 20%

  1. Serves as backup for other post-award staff.
  2. Assists in records management of sponsored project files, including University retention period regulations.
  3. Responsible for sponsored project closeouts.
  4. Responsible for hiring and managing student office assistants.
  5. Aid in the development and delivery of training materials focusing on post-award research administration for the TAMU-CC campus community.
  6. Perform other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Five (5) years of experience in post award research administration.
  2. Experience with federal, state and local grants in post-award research administration preferably in higher education or government.
  3. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  4. Working knowledge of OMB 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal awards.
  5. Ability to train and mentor campus research administrators.
  6. Experience in analysis and reconciliation of financial accounts.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Ability to evaluate federal, state and sponsor regulations and policy changes as they impact sponsored programs for development of policies and procedures, process documentation and training materials.
  2. Familiarity with eRA Commons, Research.gov, and other federal agency research administration portals.
  3. Post-award research administration experience in the Texas A&M University System.
  4. Experience with FAMIS/Canopy, MAESTRO, Concur, Workday, Data Warehouse/Business Objects.
  5. Professional designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA).
  6. Strong organizational skills, management skills, attention to detail, and ability to take initiative and to think critically to solve problems and operational issues.
  7. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

SALARY: Up to $6,041.67 Monthly ($72,500.00 Annually, Approximately)

  • NOTE: This position has the option to be fully remote, on-site, or hybrid.
