Job summary

Trinity Health in Grand Rapids seeks a Nurse Extern to support nursing teams during night shifts. You will respond to call lights, observe patients, and document outcomes under RN supervision.

The role includes basic procedures and collaboration with the care team to promote safe, compassionate patient care. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program (two clinical semesters completed) and ready to work in a Magnet-designated facility that values patient-centered care and

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program with two clinical semesters completed.
• Preferred EMT/Paramedic/BLS experience or CNA experience.

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient call lights and round for assistance.
• Collaborate with health care team to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Observe and report patient conditions; document changes and interventions.
• Assist with basic patient care under RN supervision (NG tube insertion, dressing changes, ECG, enteral tubes, suctioning).
• Monitor blood glucose and assist with peripheral IV and urinary catheterization.
• Support patient safety and emergency response as needed.

Employment Type:Part timeShift:Night ShiftDescription:Full and part time roles available in all departments.

Our employee referral program bonus for this role is $500 for referring part time candidates and $750 for referring full time candidates.

What the Nurse Extern will do:

• Respond to patient call lights for assistance or by rounding


• Collaborates with members of the health care team to ensure consistency and high-quality patient care and promotes productive
  employee relations among staff members.


• Assists the registered nurse by observing and reporting on patient conditions, recording/charting patient information and
  interacting with patient and family members. Reports changes in patient medical and/or emotional condition to the registered nurse.
  Documents interventions and patient responses accurately, completely and timely (real time as per policy). Assists nursing personnel
  in responding to various emergency patient situations.


• Performs a variety of basic patient care activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse which may include, but are not
  limited to:


• Nasogastric (NG) tube Insertion


• Maintenance functional activities


• Dressing changes


• ECG


• Maintenance of enteral tubes


• Suctioning


• Blood glucose monitoring


• Assisting with postmortem care


• Phlebotomy


• Initiation of peripheral IV lines and urinary catheterization


• Monitoring and managing patient safety

Nurse Extern Minimum Requirements Include:

• High School diploma

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing. Has successfully completed two clinical semesters of nursing school.


• Preferred Additional requirements of coursework dependent on the area of assignment.

Preferred Requirements include:

• EMT, Paramedic, Nurse aide or CENA experience in a health care setting; acute care experience preferred.


• BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support.
