Lead day‑to‑day operations at our river facility in Gladstone, overseeing barge loading, grain movement, and site performance. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable operations at the assigned location.
Responsibilities
- Supervise employees in all activities for all applicable operations at the assigned location.
- Be ultimately responsible for assigned location results and work with location management to ensure operations are optimally profitable; develop benchmarks, report results, and create improvement plans.
- Actively lead, direct, and communicate the company’s safety program to staff; schedule and conduct monthly safety meetings, set safety goals, and monitor safety behaviors and audits.
- Ensure employees comply with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (including proper use of PPE); assist management to maintain environmental controls and procedures.
- Collaborate with management to develop and revise budget forecasts with input from relevant departments.
- Oversee staffing and job development activities: hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, promotions, corrective actions, terminations.
- Plan staffing schedules and direct work duties, including vacation time and shift trades.
- Determine need for and schedule Barge/Rail/Grain Inspector as appropriate.
- Conduct internal quality audits; review and adjust PSM & MOC as necessary.
- Communicate with marine services, merchandisers, and CTLC to coordinate barge movements and loading/transfer needs.
- Ensure staff and facilities comply with all applicable state and federal regulations; take corrective actions and report incidents as needed.
- Actively participate in the trainee program; coach trainees through their curriculum and checklists.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including walk‑throughs, audits, inventory monitoring, maintenance needs, housekeeping, etc.
Qualifications
- Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent training and work experience.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Technical Systems Management.
- Experience Required: 3 years of experience in various aspects of the specific business unit.
- Working knowledge of cost structures, mix and blend analysis, safety, efficiency, product quality, preventive maintenance, OSHA, EPA, freight, FOB, and CIF marketing/sales.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong decision‑making, conflict management, troubleshooting, problem‑solving, time‑management, and organizational skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand and apply operating and emergency procedures.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and lead staff to accomplish assignments; ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of location operations, including storage, rail, and barge handling.
- Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting grain quality characteristics.
- Capability to interpret and follow all operating and emergency procedures.
- Ability to perform technical job duties supervised at the assigned location.
Physical Demands & Requirements
- Ability to continuously balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work at significant heights, and walk on barge surfaces.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks without distraction while continuously monitoring for hazards.
- Ability to identify grain damage characteristics; distinguish odors and quality differences.
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to operate in confined spaces, under extreme weather conditions, and in dusty environments.
- Ability to use personal protective equipment and comply with fall and safety training.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed both inside and outside, in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions, with frequent use of personal protective equipment.
Travel
Up to 15% travel may be required.
Compensation
Expected base pay range: $69,490.00 - $91,433.00. Pay may vary based on location, experience, and other factors.
