Job description

Thank you for your interest in joining our team. At CGB, you will play a hands‑on role in keeping grain moving—loading and unloading rail cars, performing outdoor maintenance, and ensuring a clean, safe facility.

Role Summary

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining grain handling equipment and facilities that load and unload rail cars and trucks. Duties vary by daily needs and facility type, but core responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations.
  • Execute rail duties such as preparing, unloading, loading, and placing rail cars.
  • Weigh trucks and grade grain as required.
  • Complete documentation promptly, accurately, and legibly.
  • Perform general cleanup, including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and housekeeping.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs where applicable.
  • Maintain grain quality during storage and transfer.
  • Operate heavy equipment and associated machinery, such as dryers, as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: None required. Preferred: 1 year experience in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to complete documentation requirements and follow instructions.
  • Logical problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using appropriate tools for assigned tasks.
  • Focus on exceptional customer service.
Physical Demands & Requirements
  • Ability to balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat continuously and frequently.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders to significant heights.
  • Concentration on tasks without distraction.
  • Identification of grain quality characteristics (color, odor, damage).
  • Computer data entry for observations and other records.
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of personal protective equipment and compliance with PPE requirements.
  • Pass required physical tests such as PFT, fit testing, and FRA/DOT testing where applicable.
  • Work in confined spaces, on barges, and on rail cars as required.
  • Work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed.
  • Work in high dust, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions.
  • Quickly adjust to changing environmental signals.
