Job summary

Arup is seeking a Graduate Water Engineer in San Francisco to develop sustainable water engineering solutions across multiple disciplines and project phases. You will conduct field investigations, map utilities, and build hydrologic/hydraulic models using industry tools while applying codes and standards.

The role emphasizes collaboration, data-driven design, and clear communication with teams and clients. A civil/environmental water resources background with internships and strong software

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering
• Master’s Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering preferred
• Competence with engineering software and technical writing
• Core understanding of water resources engineering and civil engineering fundamentals
• Evidence of past engineering internship or extracurricular activity in the field
• The ability to prioritize and effectively manage assigned work tasks, and maintain exceptional organizational skills under dynamic working conditions
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential to team-based working
• Public speaking and presentation skills appropriate for presentations to colleagues and clients of varying levels of technical knowledge
• Candidate must be eligible to work in the US without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future to be considered for this role
• Proficiency in civil/water engineering, design and analysis preferred
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, etc.), GIS, HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS, and/or other industry-relevant software preferred
• Proficiency with hydraulic & hydrologic analysis tools preferred
• Coursework or familiarity with sustainable design principals, and/or resilient design preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop sustainable water engineering solutions across green infrastructure, flood risk mitigations, water treatment, reuse and master planning
• Conduct data collection and field investigations
• Use ArcGIS or other georeferenced mapping platforms to prepare utility plans or hydrology/hydraulic maps
• Prepare 1-D and 2-D hydrologic and hydraulic models for flood risk assessments and water systems
• Prepare calculations for water demand, pipe sizing and rainwater harvesting sizing
• Perform flood risk assessments of sites, infrastructure and communities
• Review and apply applicable codes, specifications and standards for design and implementation
• Develop awareness of interdependence among disciplines in delivering sustainable outcomes
• Provide work products for projects at planning, design and construction stages
• Navigate regulatory environment to gain approvals at various stages
• Prepare reports, calculations, plans, exhibits and specifications
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations to technical and non-technical audiences

The opportunity

• Develop sustainable water engineering solutions, including green infrastructure, flood risk mitigations, water treatment, water reuse, master planning, resilience planning, and sustainability assessments on a variety of site development and civil infrastructure projects
• Conduct data collection and field investigations
• Use ArcGIS or other georeferenced mapping platforms to prepare utility plans or hydrology/hydraulic maps
• Prepare 1-D and 2-D hydrologic and hydraulic models for flood risk assessments, stormwater management, and sanitary and potable water systems. Software may include programs such as InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, Storm and Sanitary Analysis, EPANET, InfoWater, and others
• Prepare calculations for water demand, pipe sizing, rainwater harvesting sizing and cost savings and other relevant hydraulic calculations for water systems
• Perform flood risk assessments of sites, infrastructure and communities
• Review and apply applicable codes, specifications and standards for the design and implementation of the above elements
• Develop awareness of interdependence among disciplines in delivering sustainable and resilient outcomes
• Provide work products for projects at various phases of planning, design and construction
• Successfully navigate the regulatory environment to gain approvals at various stages of project delivery
• Develop a big-picture awareness that permeates various skill areas in Arup
• Prepare reports, calculations, plans, exhibits and specifications
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations to technical and non-technical audiences

San Francisco Hiring Range – Hiring Range- The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performedin San Francisco is $79,500 to $86,500 per year. This range iscommensuratewith experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
