Graduate Teaching Assistant - Art & Design (Fall 2025 - Spring 2026)

Position Summary

The duties of the Graduate Teaching Assistant may include assisting faculty with various lab-related tasks, performing classroom instruction, and other academic support duties, departmental operational needs, and clerical duties as assigned. Positions will be filled based on individual skills, qualifications, and departmental needs. Teaching schedule depends on lab scheduling.

Compensation

Graduate Teaching Assistants work 20 hours per week during a semester, receiving a $4,000 stipend per semester, paid in four monthly installments. They also receive a scholarship up to $4,386.00 each semester.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist faculty and lab supervisors in preparation and clean-up.
• Serve as lab instructor.
• Log and process course materials, assignments, and internship materials.
• Assist with research tasks, including source research using library and internet resources.
• Perform clerical and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be a degree-seeking graduate student at JSU, actively enrolled in a graduate program during the semester.
• If new, must be admitted to a degree program.
• Must maintain a minimum GPA for the enrolled degree.
• Enrolled in 6-9 graduate semester hours during the semester.
• Must not hold another campus job or receive other tuition scholarships/waivers from JSU, except external scholarships or tuition assistance.
• Must complete FERPA, Sexual Harassment, and other required trainings.
• International students must have valid immigration status and meet specific visa and documentation requirements.
