Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory seeks a Research Biological Scientist to contribute to diverse research, development, and characterization projects that understand and mitigate biological threats in field-forward and clinical settings.

You will work in small and large teams, write reports and publications, and present results to the scientific community while advancing surveillance and detection strategies against infectious diseases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Biomechanical Engineering, Biophysics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related fields
  • Willing and able to work in Biosafety level 2 laboratories
  • Experience with general laboratory equipment and methods
  • Experience with eukaryotic tissue culture and/or microbial culture
  • Experience analyzing biological data and communicating technical concepts
  • Able to obtain Secret level security clearance. US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Participate in small and large teams and work in various lab and analytic environments
  • Write technical reports and publications, and publish/present results to the scientific community
  • Communicate key findings internally and externally to the broader research community
  • Leverage novel findings to advance mitigation strategies against infectious disease including detection and surveillance
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary efforts using advanced methods and technologies
