What you will do

• Provide nursing care according to medical regime and the nursing plan appropriate for the patients' conditions, following established standards, policies and procedures.
• Assess, plan and implement care of assigned patients consistent with patient care policies, procedures and demonstrated competencies, while considering risk management, infection control and patient safety.
• Perform duties specific to the clinical area, excluding administration of medications, IVs and blood/blood products.
• Implement patient teaching outlines, including objectives, content, teaching strategies and evaluation of patient progress.
• Document assessment and other clinical judgments, and perform continual clinical assessment to monitor patient status and responses to treatment.
• Report any unusual findings to the Patient Care Coordinator, Registered Nurse, Physician or other applicable healthcare team member.
• Demonstrate ability to manage care of patients with conditions common to the unit and provide age‑specific care.
• Transport patients' charts, specimens, equipment and supplies.
• Interact and communicate in a customer‑responsive and courteous manner in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promote patient/customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement patient care.
• Prepare and maintain required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes, including charting duties and data entry into patient computer systems.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations, notify appropriate personnel, and initiate or assist with basic CPR procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding patient/family, department, and hospital information, and adhere to HIPAA, confidentiality, and compliance policies.
• Complete required continuous training and education, including department‑specific requirements; attend staff meetings, mandatory in‑service, and additional continuing education as needed.
• Respond to problems/opportunities to improve care and participate in organization performance‑improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel, adhering to established policies, compliance, quality‑improvement, patient‑safety, environmental and infection‑control standards.
• Provide coverage for relief and absences as required.

Qualifications

• Completion of the course requirements for graduation from an Associate’s Degree, Diploma or Bachelor of Science program in nursing.
• Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, toddler, pre‑schooler, school‑age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates.
• All Graduate Nurse Externs must take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) upon hire.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Tennessee (or compact state licensure) required, with license obtained within 90 days.
• Experience in patient care obtained through completion of an approved nursing program.
