General Summary
Provides professional nursing care at the beginner practitioner level in accordance with patient and family-centered care principles, based on the nursing process and hospital standards. Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit, coordinating care planning with other disciplines. May require specialized skills depending on the unit assignment.
- Provides and coordinates direct care based on the nursing process and hospital standards. Acts as a primary nurse, synthesizing patient data to develop outcome-driven plans.
- Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessments and care plans.
- Organizes and prioritizes tasks based on patient condition and workload. Recognizes changes in patient status and responds appropriately. Knows how to activate resources to achieve patient outcomes.
- Seeks mentoring and coaching from CN II & III levels.
- Communicates patient needs effectively during handoffs and collaborates on care planning with patients, families, and team members.
- Documents patient responses and progress accurately using flow sheets, progress notes, and electronic medical records. Identifies variances and system indicators such as falls and pressure ulcers.
- Identifies areas for professional growth and values evidence-based research for best practices.
- Supports a professional practice environment promoting patient safety and quality through interdisciplinary collaboration and shared decision-making. Participates in unit committees and SDM projects, serving as a role model.
- Delegates care tasks appropriately, assists in organizing team work, and monitors task completion.
- Fosters collaboration among physicians, nursing staff, and other team members. Develops conflict resolution and negotiation skills to enhance team performance.
Minimum Education:
- Associates Degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Work Experience:
- Less than 1 year of registered nursing experience required
Licenses:
- Licensed Graduate Registered Nurse Permit upon hire required or
- Licensed Registered Nurse upon hire required or
- Multistate Registered Nurse License upon hire required
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire required
