Job summary

The New School's Center for Career Design and Development seeks graduate student mentors for the Career Pathways Mentoring Program Student Assistant Specialist. The role pairs a Graduate Mentor with four undergraduates to support their academic and professional goals.

Mentors will meet mentees four times per month (in person or remote), with the first meeting in person, plus two catered group lunches. An 8-hour certificate is provided before the semester begins.

Qualifications

  • Graduate student in good standing
  • Completed at least one semester of full-time study
  • GPA equal to 3.5 or higher
  • Approachable, friendly, supportive, desire to guide others
  • Knowledge of university resources

Job description

The Center for Career Design and Development seeks graduate student mentors for their Career Pathways Mentoring Program Student Assistant Specialist.

The Career Pathways Mentoring Program pairs a Graduate Mentor with four undergraduate students to help support their academic and professional aspirations. Mentorship is expected to help undergraduate students understand the value of finishing their degrees as a path to a career. We strongly encourage graduate students from across The New School to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Available to meet with mentees — 4 meetings per month (in person or remote)
  • The first meeting with mentee must be in person
  • Available to attend in person and support two group meetings over a catered lunch, one at the beginning of the program and one at the end
  • Responsible for encouraging your mentee and offering guidance as appropriate; steering mentee to university resources as needed; communicating concerns with pilot program co chairs as necessary
  • Participation in an 8-Hour Asynchronous Peer Mentoring Certificate program will be required (provided) prior to the start of the semester.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate student in good standing
  • Completion of at least one semester of full time study
  • Graduation date no earlier than May 2026
  • GPA equal to 3.5 or higher
  • Approachable, friendly, supportive, desire to and able to provide guidance
  • Knowledge of university resources
WORK MODE

Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.

#LI-DNI Hourly Rate: $21.00 per hour; 5 hours per week Fall and Spring Semesters
