Job summary

Dashiell Corporation, part of Quanta Services, seeks a Graduate Civil Engineer to grow within a project team. You will assist with civil and structural design, applying standards such as NESC and IEEE, and support wind load and analysis tasks under supervision.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree and are pursuing or obtained an EIT certificate, with internship experience in the power sector preferred. Expect time on substations and occasional travel to projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required; power focus preferred.
• EIT certificate or ability to obtain within one year of hire is required.
• Prior internship and/or related work experience in the power field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with a project team to create or modify civil and structural design documents and drawings under supervision.
• Perform engineering support tasks such as wind load calculations and structural analysis with minimal supervision.
• Learn and apply standards (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI) and use the document management system.

Primary Function

As a member of a project team, the Graduate Civil Engineer will perform engineering and design duties, which require application of engineering principles. Assignments are closely supervised and designed to further develop employee’s job knowledge and abilities

Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with a project team to create or modify all civil and structural design documents and drawings for a project, under direct supervision.
• Perform engineering support tasks such as wind load calculations and structural analysis, with minimal supervision.
• Learn and apply engineering standards including NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC and ACI.
• Learn and properly use the document management system.
• Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices.
• Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge and additional training in substation construction and design.
• Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.
• Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
• Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
• Other duties as required.

• Take ownership of your work - double-check calculations and drawings before submitting, and catch errors before they become someone else's problem.
• Learn the "why" behind engineering standards and codes (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI), not just the requirements, to build real design judgment.
• Spend time at job sites to connect your designs to real-world construction, and bring proposed solutions along with any problems you raise.
• Master the document management system and corporate engineering practices, and say yes to travel and additional assignments to build credibility fast.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required, a power focus is preferred. Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate within one year of date of hire is required. Prior internship and/or related work experience in the power field is preferred.
