Reporting To: Head Swimming and Diving Coach and Athletic Director

Job Overview: The Graduate Assistant for the Swimming and Diving programs works under the direction of the head coach and assists with the administration of a successful Division III athletic program. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, instructing, advising, counseling, and other administrative duties as assigned by the head coach or Athletic Director.

Essential Functions

  • Work under the direction of the head coach for swimming and diving program.
  • Assist with the administration of a successful Division III athletic program, including but not limited to: coaching, recruiting, instructing, advising, film breakdown, counseling, and other duties.
  • Serve as a positive role model for all student-athletes and represent Albertus Magnus College in a professional, responsible, and positive manner.
  • Follow all NCAA, GNAC, and Athletics Department guidelines.
  • Foster a culture of compliance with NCAA rules and regulations, and to assist with the promotion of an environment of institutional control over intercollegiate athletics by Albertus Magnus College.
  • All other duties as assigned by the head coach, Director of Athletics and/or athletic administrative staff. Duties included but not limited to: assisting with the department's Study Hall program, driving campus vans for road contests and providing support with home event management.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience at the collegiate, club, and/or scholastic levels as a student-athlete and/or coach.
  • Knowledge of collegiate rules and a demonstrated compliance with said rules.
  • Relevant work experience may be substituted to meet qualifications for the position.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Acceptance to the Albertus Magnus College full-time graduate program of one of the following programs:
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Master of Science in Management and Organizational Leadership (MSMOL)
  • Master of Science in Criminal Justice
  • Master of Accounting
  • Master of Healthcare Administration

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience as a student-athlete or coach of the sport(s).
  • General understanding of the recruiting process at the college level.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy regarding the student-athlete experience.

Work Schedule Requirements

  • Special Work Schedule Requirements: This position includes weekend and evening hours.
  • Graduate Assistant Coaches are expected to fulfill a commitment to the Athletic Department in line with the department commitment to educational benefits as outlined in the Graduate Assistant Contract and handbook.
  • A Graduate Assistant Coach is expected to meet the expectations regarding time and performance as established by the Head Coach and the department.
