Graduate Assistant: Residence Life Coordinator



Position Overview: The Residence Hall Coordinator serves as the main point of contact for a Residence Hall on-campus . They are expected to promote andmaintain a positive living - learning environment by working closely with the student staff (RAs) to provide residents with a holistic student experience. Additionally they will manage the operations, development, and community within one of the four halls on Concordia's Campus. This position directly supervises student staff, monitors interpersonal complications, and manages programming and event planning. They participate in department and campus-wide programming and assessment initiatives, and serve in an on-call rotation for crisis/high-need situations.

Essential Duties:


  • Supervision - supervise four to eight Resident Assistants, aid in development of students living on campus, facilitate meetings and one-on-ones, conduct performance evaluations.

  • Administrative - meetings with supervisor, ensure all reports are completed for building (programming, condition reports, occupancy, weekly report, rounds logs, roommate agreements, etc...), ensure your building is kept clean, orderly, and well maintained.

  • Training - lead one activity per semester for on-going training, plan developmental activities for RAs, attend department meetings, assist with fall and spring student staff training, participate in professional development opportunities (including ATCCHA - not required, but highly encouraged).

  • Programming - oversee all programming for your hall by assisting RAs come up with ideas, spacing out programs throughout the semester, printing marketing materials, attending programs when able.

  • Crisis Response/Conduct - serve in the on-call rotation and respond to incidents as needed, follow up with residents as needed/requested.

  • Community building - work with your RAs to create an accepting, encouraging community across their floors and throughout your hall, embrace, respect, and celebrate differences, set community standards that you live out as an example.

  • Departmental Responsibilities - assist with Welcome Weekend, Admitted Student Day, Housing Sign Up Day, and RA hiring; assist with Student Life programming and educational opportunities; assist with assessment, large scale programs and other areas as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree: Required

  • Must be accepted into a CSP Master's Program (Graduate Assistant)

    • CSP Programs include - Educational Leadership, Leadership & Management, MBA, Strategic Communication Management, Criminal Justice Leadership, Human Services - Forensic Behavioral Health, or other related degree program approved by the Director of Human Resources and Dean of Students & Residence Life



  • Experience working with students on a college campus: Required

  • Residence Life experience: Preferred

  • GAs are expected to follow the curriculum lay-out as described in the program (this generally would be taking one course every seven-weeks). Any exception to this must be requested and approved by the Director of Residence Life, Human Resources, and the academic department advisor prior to registration.


Competencies:


  • Written and Oral Communication (experience with Google operating systems)

  • Ability to work with students from different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, classes, genders

  • Ability to work in a team environment while able to stay self-motivated
