Position Title: Graduate Assistant - Naropa Writing Center

Work Location: Hybrid On-Site/Remote

Campus Location: Arapahoe Campus

Reports to: Amy Bobeda, Naropa Writing Center Director

FLSA Classification: Exempt/Salaried

FTE: 25% (10 hrs/week)

Compensation: $20 per hour and $3,000 scholarship for the academic year

Job Summary

The Naropa Writing Center aims to be an effective resource for all members of the Naropa community (students, staff, faculty, alumni) by providing a respectful, collaborative, and engaged learning environment for writers. We offer interactive sessions, asynchronous sessions for online students, and foster analytic thinking, reading, and writing through writer-to-writer feedback and collaboration. Our space encourages practice, experimentation, and risk-taking without judgment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  2. Offer instructional support in the Writing Center and in the classroom when available.
  3. Conduct online and in-person consulting sessions with writers.
  4. Conduct asynchronous writer-to-writer feedback sessions.
  5. Aid with the day-to-day functioning of the Naropa Writing Center.
  6. Attend program orientation: a full-day training during the week before the fall semester.
  7. Participate in professional development meetings once a month on Fridays.
  8. Design one workshop for professional development.
  9. Support COR classes with workshops.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  1. Must enroll in and pass WRI700: Writing Pedagogy Seminar with an A- or better. An incomplete does not satisfy this requirement.
  2. Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally and empathetically.
  3. Demonstrate advanced writing ability.
  4. Potential for/compatibility with NWC's pedagogy (constructivist, contemplative, experiential, process-based).
  5. Interest in writing pedagogy and practice, especially in a writing center setting.
  6. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and professional skills; meticulous attention to detail; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  7. Strong technological skills for online consulting and platform operation.
  8. Understanding and appreciation of Naropa University's values and ability to embody them in work and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Previous experience with writing centers or teaching.
  2. Training in areas such as learning disabilities, multilingual speakers, diversity awareness, trauma-informed pedagogy, research writing, and MLA/APA/CMS.
  3. Incoming first-year Jack Kerouac School MFA candidate.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

In classrooms and on campus, may experience interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust, and dampness. Extended periods may include:

  • Reading texts and student papers.
  • Operating computers and AV equipment.
  • Standing or sitting for hours.
  • Moving around campus for classes and meetings.
Holidays and Benefits

Naropa observes holidays including Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and the last two weeks of December.
