Position Description

Advertised Job Summary: The University of South Carolina Upstate is seeking applicants for a graduate assistant for marketing, fan engagement, and revenue generation. Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Revenue Generation, this position will support and implement strategies to maximize fan attendance, ticketing, and sponsorship revenue for USC Upstate athletics and its 13 sport programs. The program aims to provide an individualized graduate assistantship experience to prepare individuals for full-time roles in collegiate athletics administration.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Lead marketing, promotional, and game presentation efforts for assigned sports.
  2. Serve as secondary marketing and group ticket contact for men’s and women’s basketball.
  3. Assist with corporate partnership prospecting, proposals, and stewardship under the supervision of the Sr. Assoc. AD for External Operations.
  4. Identify and implement grassroots marketing activities on-campus and in the Spartanburg community.
  5. Research and propose innovative fan engagement and revenue generation concepts.
  6. Assist with planning and executing non-gameday events (e.g., Morgan Square Madness, Sparty Awards, Sparty’s Ball, Fox Sports 98.3 FM Upstate Takeover Day, Hall of Fame Induction).
  7. Assist in training, scheduling, and supervising undergraduate student workers for assigned sports.
  8. Manage USC Upstate’s presence at community events, including mascot appearances and Sparty’s Kids Club.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Department leadership.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at USC Columbia or the Business Analytics Master’s program at USC Upstate.
  • Must be accepted as a graduate student to hold the position.
  • Effective interaction with student-athletes, colleagues, coaches, and supporters.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Successful background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports management, or related fields.
  • Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Ability to work scheduled nights and weekends.
  • Adherence to USC Upstate, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules.
  • Multitasking ability.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Compensation
  • $1,000 monthly stipend for a 10-month academic year, with potential summer appointment.
  • Out-of-state tuition waiver (valued at approximately $12,000 to $16,000 annually).
  • Candidate responsible for in-state tuition and fees (approximately $10,300 to $14,000 annually).
  • Parking permit provided.
